Piano Lessons with Brieley Cutting

Being part of Brieley Cutting's Studio means

​In her lessons, Brieley focuses on assisting her piano students to 

  • develop a solid foundation

  • read music scores

  • play with a strong sense of rhythm

  • study music theory to support music understanding

  • grow skills in collaborative playing

  • gain technical skill so as to be able to play advanced repertoire.

Brieley is a Full Member of the Music Teachers' Association of New South Wales and is a Steinway Educational Partner.

During her studies, Brieley's main teachers included Oleg Stepanov, Natasha Vlassenko, Timothy Young, Rita Reichman, Pamela Page, Max Olding, Ruth Nye and Stephen Emmerson. 

​

As a student, Brieley was successful in many piano competitions. Experiences included becoming the National Keyboard Winner of the 2006 ABC Young Performers Awards, for the Grand Final performing Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No.3 with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in Hamer Hall for ABC television and live ABC radio. She has also received Second Placing in the 2010 Kerikeri National Piano Competition in New Zealand, the first year it went international, and was a finalist in the 2002 Kawai Australasian Youth Piano Concerto Competition in Melbourne, performing with the Melbourne Youth Orchestra at the Melbourne Town Hall. Brieley was selected to perform as soloist with the Queensland Conservatorium Orchestra in her graduating year aged 18 years, was twice a winner in the Australian National Academy of Music's in-house concerto competition - consequently performing with the Melbourne Symphony and Nizhny Novgorod Philharmonic -  and was twice a semi-finalist in the Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition in Brisbane, 2001 and 2007.

Brieley has degrees from leading higher education institutions in Brisbane, Melbourne and London. Brieley holds Bachelor (First Class Honours) and Masters Degrees in Performance from the Queensland Conservatorium in Brisbane, and she studied for four years in the Performance Program at the Australian National Academy of Music in Melbourne. She was awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Performance (Distinction) from the Royal College of Music in London and completed doctoral studies in 2016 whilst on scholarship at the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University.

 

Brieley has also attended international festivals for intensive lessons and masterclasses - the 2002 International Festival Musici Artis in Brussels and 2003 Summer Festival in Salzburg. As a 2013 Fellow of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust, Brieley continued with further studies in London, Amsterdam and New York, researching aspects including collaborative piano, historically informed performance, academic research, new music performance, artistic directorship and leading concert venues.

 

Brieley received her AMusA from the Australian Music Examinations Board aged eleven years.

Brieley has over 20 years experience as a piano teacher. Teaching experience include successfully guiding students through AMEB piano practical exams for over 20 years, working as Lecturer in Classical Piano at the Australian Institute of Music for nearly 5 years, being invited to adjudicate for the Queensland Conservatorium of Music and Sydney Eisteddfod, working as examiner and accompanist at the University of Queensland School of Music, assisting as Lecturer at the University of New England (NSW), accepting the invitation to be Head of Piano at the New England regional Conservatorium (Armidale, NSW), being Piano Teacher at St Joseph's College (Gregory Terrace) in Brisbane for several years, and delivering Masterclasses from the QLD Gold Coast to regional NSW conservatories and in Sydney.
